Discover the many Osterias , Trattorias, Bars and Ristorantes in Venice.
Amongst the many things to do in Venice, eating and dining is a special experience. Osterias are small places, where mostly only wine and small dishes are served. Trattorias are small Italian restaurants with a very familiar atmosphere, thus distinguishing themselves from the ristorantes, the restaurants. They usually offer a little less of a selection than the Ristorantes. As always in Venice, you will find very expensive places, very touristee places and very domestic places with affordable offerings. Just discover and enjoy.
One of the most typical foods in Venice, apart from the Aperol Veneciano drink, are the Cicchetti. Cicchetti are small pieces of food, mostly served on a slice of white bread. In a typical Venetian Osteria or Trattoria you will find a vitrine with many Cicchetti at display and you chose by fingerpointing at them. Enjoy them with a glass of wine. Very often, especially in the small places, you will find the Fragolinos. These are locally produced wines, red and white, with a sweet flavor. In many of these places people often stay on the outside, which gives them a very southern atmosphere, however knowing that you nevertheless still are being in thmiddle of Europe.
For some of the places, especially the more expensive ones, it is adviseable to make a reservation.
Worth mentioning are the many bars, often just one room with antique-looking interiors, often in a very simple style. Small, thus cosy and often crowded in a positive way.
The city is full of people at night, also in Winter when the climate is still mild. So concerning nightlife I can say that life at night is happening on the outside usually. Very recommendable are the piazalles and the campos, where you will find tables of restaurants and people strolling around.
